Very few people are aware about bathroom lightning regulations and therefore they do not know the importance of hiring professionals for bathroom lightning installations.
Regulations for bathroom lightning are much stricter than any other as they are most vulnerable to electrical hazards. To keep your bathrooms safe it is must hire professionals to do all bathroom lightning installations.
Every bathroom is divided into different zones by professionals so that they can decide which light fitting to be used and of what IP rating.
According to bathroom lighting regulations every light used in bathrooms should be Ingress Protection (IP) rated. The rating defines how capable the lights are to prevent any solids or liquid from penetrating. The higher the IP rating the more protected the light is. And professional very well knows which IP rated light to be used in what area like bedroom, lounges and so on. All the installations complied by professionals are within the guidelines based on zoning requirements. And bathroom lighting regulations apply to all domestic installations by experienced and qualified professionals.
Each and every zone area has a specific IP rating based on the degree of electrical shock risk. The word IP is followed by two numbers; the first number refers to the level of protection against foreign bodies and the second refers to protection against ingress of liquids.
The following are the types of zones and the IP rating used in them:
Zone 0- It is the zone which is inside a bath or shower and has a low voltage fitting. IP67 is used for such zone in immersion proof.
Zone 1- It is the area above the bath to a height of 2.25 m from the floor. IPX4 is used.
Zone 2-It is the area which stretches 0.6m outside the perimeter of the bath and to the height of 2.25 m from the floor. Also around the wash basin with a radius of with 60cm lies in this zone and requires IPX4 rating.
All outside zones need no special requirement but every zone with electrical circuits must be protected with 30mA residual current device.
Any electrical equipment exposed to water jets must have at least IPX5 lighting for safety.
